Year-End Review 2009! Go-go!
Right. So I said I'd write this thing. Awesome.

Pointless ramblings are a-go!

I don't really remember much about the beginning of the year, to be honest. All that really comes to mind is helping start my high school's newspaper and shouting "CONGLOMERATE!" to combine powers with my classmates in Economics class. In February I turned 18. Wasn't as exciting as everyone makes it out to be. Sure, I can vote (but the election of the century was already over), gamble (but I have no money), get in R-rated movies (too poor to go to the movies often anyway), and smoke (nasty smelling fire hazard), but I'm pretty much the same as I was a year ago.

In June I finally graduated high school, which really was as awesome as everyone makes it out to be.

Until I got my first college tuition bill.

And for the record, Recessional > Pomp & Circumstance. ;D

Since I'm attending college close to home, I still see my awesometastic friends almost... at least once a week.

Speaking of friends, my BFF is one of those Twilight people, and New Moon would soon be released. So of course I knew I would be dragged to that movie. After last year's experience with the first movie, I knew full well if I didn't read the book I'd be completely lost and wondering why they just suddenly walk into a forest for no reason, among other things.

I suppose you're wondering why I even bothered instead of rejecting her offer?
-She's my BFF.
-She's too moe to turn down. <.<;
-We have a tradition of going out for Chinese before going to any feature film.
-I plan on dragging her to the Artemis Fowl movie if it comes out before we turn into fossils.

Now just so you know, New Moon is most possibly the most boring book ever written. It's like the author was just like, "Here, have 500 pages of emo Bella and zero plot development~" At least Twilight had been tolerable, if even decent, but New Moon... FFFFFF--

So of course I put off reading it until the day before we planned to go (she had this planned out at least 6 months in advance). Poor move on my part. I should've spread out the torture.

So the day of the New Moon movie came. I was more excited about the Chinese food.

As expected, the Chinese food was unreasonably delicious. New Moon was surprisingly easy to mock. It helped that our group consisted of the only 5 people in the theater, so we were allowed to be somewhat obnoxious. Another friend and I were laughing the whole time. Apparently Bella has the same camera I do. I can't say I blame her. The Panasonic Lumix is an awesome camera. ;D

I was sorely disappointed that the movie cut out the two best parts of the book.
[SPOILERS]
-Alice and Bella stealing the Porsche.
-Charlie yelling at Bella in caps lock whilst she was having a super serious conversation with Edward and Jacob.

[/SPOILERS]

Back to the subject of college, I still haven't managed to figure out what the heck I want to be when I grow up, and as such, I have yet to declare a major. I'm thinking about Spanish, though. All I really want to do is learn languages, so... yeah.

I had a bit of a rocky start, what with being horrible at Precalculus. By some miracle I managed to pull an F up to a B before the end of the semester. I've never been so proud of a B before. It really was wonderful. I've vowed never to do such a ridiculous excuse for math again. I aced all my other classes, despite thinking my speeches for public speaking class were suckish.

I also learned that I'm terrible at making friends. To be honest, I'm not sure how I made the ones I have now, because I can't seem to make a single friend in college. It doesn't really help that I'm unreasonably shy towards people I don't know very well. (Though, I have to admit, I'm one of those people who's incredibly obnoxious once I feel comfortable around someone. <.<;)

Upon learning that my college had an Anime Club, I immediately joined.

But before I go into that, I should cover my Pre-Anime Club anime exploits this year:
-Umineko no Naku Koro ni
-Higurashi no Naku Koro ni
-School Rumble
-Lucky Star OVA
-The Melancholy of Haruhi-chan
-Chi's Sweet Home
-Skip Beat! (unfinished)
-Death Note (unfinished)
-Negima!? (unfinished)
-Itazura na Kiss (unfinished)

A friend of mine introduced me to Umineko with the SN demo last year, and I was pretty much hooked. So of course, I just had to watch the anime when it came out this summer. And then I knew I definitely had to watch it's predecessor, Higurashi. I plan to watch Kai very soon and I'm hoping there's an anime for Chiru on its way.

School Rumble is one of those shows I've always wanted to watch, but couldn't for one reason or another. My luck took a turn for the better when Funimation uploaded the eps to YouTube. Needless to say, I was very pleased.

A friend from school actually recommended the Negima!? manga to me, so I took that a step further and started watching the anime. Unfortunately, the anime doesn't quite grab you like the manga does, so I'm progressing through it very slowly. As for the manga, I much prefer reading actual books over reading online scans, so reading any manga tends to be a slow business for me.

I may not finish Itazura na Kiss. To be honest, it's kind of boring and I don't really care for the art style that much. If it doesn't pick up soon I think I'll drop it.

One thing I noticed as I delved deeper and deeper into the anime fandom, is that I'm one of the few people who hasn't seen those shows that everyone has seen (or at least, not all the way through). (I.E.: Neon Genesis Evangelion, Death Note, Full Metal Alchemist, etc, etc.) So one day (last year, I think), I was up late and I think to myself, "Oh look-- Death Note is on television. I think I'll watch an episode and see if I like it or not." At the end of the episode, I note that the ending song is different than what I remember seeing on YouTube and that they killed off the main character.

Then, glaring at the television screen I realize: It was the last. Fucking. Episode.

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF--

Of course I'd be the poor sap who actually manages to spoil the whole series for herself unintentionally.

So this year I was bound and determined to watch it. I haven't finished it yet, but it's a longer series than I usually watch, so that's to be expected.

Anyway, here's my Post-Joining-Anime Club list:
-Baccano!
-Axis Powers Hetalia (airing)
-Higashi no Eden/Eden of the East (unfinished)
-Black Lagoon (unfinished)
-Princess Tutu (unfinished)
-Kuroshitsuji (unfinished)
-Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuro-chan (unfinished)

We're also watching Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei and Ouran High School Host Club, but having already seen those all the way through, I didn't bother putting them in the list.

Baccano!, like School Rumble, is another series I've always wanted to watch but for some reason couldn't. As such, I was filled with glee when I learned we'd be watching it in Anime Club. The Roaring 20s have always intrigued me, and anime being quite possibly my favorite hobby, well... combining the two sounded like a delicious gem~

With that said, it was. :D

Oh, Hetalia.
Hetalia Hetalia Hetalia.
After one episode I was addicted. I haven't been able to pull myself away from it since. After that first club meeting I went back to the dorm and watched every single episode that was available. That wasn't enough, so I found the webcomic and read that. Still not satisfied, I've spent my days watching MADs on YouTube and prowling on the Hetalia LJ comm. The new episodes and Marukaite Chikyuus are the highlights of my week. It's insane, man. INSANE.

It doesn't help that all the countries are so freaking adorable. I think I'll be stuck in this fandom for a long, long, long time. Axis Powers Hetalia, along with HGSS, has simply made my 2009, if not my whole decade.
Also, I'd just like to let a Mr. Alfred F. Jones know that I <3 him and that he can be my hero any day.

Eden of the East is just... wow. As soon as we started watching, I knew that any anime that manages to utilize near perfect English (in it's original, subbed format, mind you) has to be good. Just the fact they put that much work into getting that detail right told me there would be something awesome in store. And I was right. Definitely worth watching, and if we don't finish it in club, I certainly plan to watch it on my own. My only complaint would have to be the strange preoccupation with "Johnnies." <.<;

Princess Tutu is something I was planning to watch eventually since my friend had recommended it, but since it wasn't the first thing on my list I hadn't gotten to it yet. I have to say, the main character is quite possibly the cutest duck ever. We've only watched 2 episodes so far, so I don't really have much to say about it yet, but I'm looking forward to seeing what happens~

Dokuro-chan... is... so horrible that it's funny. Unfortunately, the humor value only lasted through the first episode for me, and despite watching the horribly graphic Higurashi, Umineko, School Days, Narutaru, Baccano!, and Chaos;Head, there are some parts of Dokuro-chan that I simply can't watch because... just... guh. D:
Although, the op still amuses me to no end. It's fun to show people just for the shock value. :D

And four other things that should be mentioned about this year:
-Pokemon Heart Gold & Soul Silver remakes were announced this year. I squeed. Next year is going to be awesome solely because of this.
-I somehow managed to get pulled into the whole Vocaloid fandom this summer. <3 Miracle Paint. <3 SF-A2 miki. <3 Project Diva videos. <3 Vocaloid PVs in general.
-This year I was somewhat unemployed. I say somewhat because they simply closed without informing me and are planning to reopen eventually, though the manager may be different so I'm unsure if I'll still be employed when they come back. As of right now, my job status is in a virtual limbo. <.<;
-My New Year's Resolution this year is to master the Hare Hare Yukai. My sub-resolution is to lose 10 pounds doing so. My sub-sub-resolution is to cosplay someone in 2011. I don't know who yet, though I'd honestly love to cosplay Ichijou-san from Pani Poni Dash. :D
I might have to actually figure out how to sew something since cosplay outfits are so expensive. ~.~; [/hasn'tsewnsince9thgrade]

I guess that's all for this year~
If you actually read all this, I must admire your extensive attention span. <3

Happy New Year everyone~!!
